One of the pillars of Teshuva is acceptance. You have to accept things as they are, you have to accept yourself as you are, in order to start working on improvement. Reuven is, according to tradition, the first Baal Teshuva. And we can see this trait of acceptance in other aspects of the tribe. Before entering the land of Israel, they are content receiving the land they have in front of them. They accept it. They don’t have expectations.
