Many of us want to discover something new, explore the unknown, and experience true meaning.
We want to go outside and connect to the depth and mystery held in this most ancient of places, where hidden treasures await and forgotten wisdom longs to be revealed.
Wisdom kept secret in a specific time and place, as it relates to its month and tribe.
The tribe of Reuvan is calling you into the desert, on a journey that will guide you to a new understanding of Tammuz, while the land of Reuven tells you her story.
We get together once a month for a meeting on the ancient estates of the tribes of Israel. Our trips on to these tribal lands are based on the deep knowledge transmitted from our ancestors and the principles of Jewish morality, which is our heritage, as well as practical tools for our modern lives.
Tamuz is the month of perseverance, of determination, of vision and, of falling. Having a vision, foresight, is essential to success. Yet, built within this month of vision and perseverance is the recognition that one does not always succeed; that falling is always an integral part of the process. Tamuz is the month when the Israelites fell and made the Golden Calf. It is also when, in the pursuit of vision the ten spies were sent out and ‘fell’, ultimately obscuring their vision. Tammuz is the month of honing our ‘vision’, of looking ahead down our path and foreseeing the potential pitfalls on the way. Yet, with clear vision comes the realization that ‘falling’ will inevitably happen. As such, it is a time to build up our resolve and determination, softly ‘lean into’ our failing when they occur, and to and committing to getting back up on our feet when we do fall. The customs of mourning and acknowledgment of failing that begin during this month can help with those goals.
